Wedding Biz Update

I know many of you have asked through emails and phone conversations how the wedding business is going in Chicago. As I suspected, it's going rather slowly. But I expected that and am not discouraged.
I have Rita working on updating the website and looking at our advertising needs in Chicago, while I'm tackling the networking. It's been a blessing that I'm a part of the Association of Bridal Consultants, as I've easily transitioned into the IL Chapter of the organization. It's a great place to start networking and feel my way through the Chicago wedding industry.
So while I work on the business and building up referrals from vendors, I am looking for a Catholic Church where I can not only be a member, but also volunteer my wedding coordinating services. I think that will help keep me in the know of weddings while I start over in Chicago.
I will keep you posted on any new developments!

Weak Floors

Weak floors are not one of my favorite things.

I was walking around at work last week (carpeted floors), when all of a sudden, my heel went down, got stuck in the floor, and I completely walked out of my shoe....ripping it. I was so stunned. I come to find out that there are "holes" in the floor at work and that I need to tread lightly.
WHAT?!?!
Now whenever I wear heels, I'm walking on my toes to avoid falling into one of the mysterious floor holes.
Ridiculous.

My other floor experience is with my upstairs neighbor. I realize we have wood floors and probably not a lot of insulation between her floor and my ceiling, but it doesn't help that she's a clomper. Yes, that is a word. She completely walks with her heels. Shaun and Christopher, I know you said I walked with my heels quite a bit growing up and it annoyed you to no end. I apologize right here and now.
I can understand and live with the clomping during normal hours; however, I believe this neighbor is a bar waitress or something, because she typically rolls into her apartment between 3-5am. Where she proceeds to walk around the apartment in high heeled shoes/boots, takes those off and throws them on the floor, and then proceeds to walk on her heels all around the apartment. A little respect please. I can't tell you how many mornings I have been brought out of my deep slumber by her clomping.

I wish you and yours strong floors.

What's Your Funny Story?

I'm so behind in my blogging, and I wanted to make sure I relayed the most recent funny stories I have for you.

When I was driving around the Twin Cities a few weeks ago, I happened to come across your typical family minivan. BUT, this was not your typical dark grey minivan...this one had red racing stripes down the middle of it
Really?
Why don't we leave the custom paint jobs to the performance vehicles.

While getting ready for work one morning this week, I hear song birds outside my window. How is it even possible that a bird can be chirping a "spring" song when it is -20 degrees. How?

I snorted snow this week. And no, that isn't some Chicago slang term for illegal substances. As I was walking to work one morning this week, it began to snow. And I'm talking about those big snowflakes that look like puffballs from the sky. When a gust of wind came up, these big puffball snowballs went straight up my nose. It surprised me so much, that I had to stop in my tracks a few times.

So what's your funny story? Post it now!

Recipe: Pumpkin Cookies

By popular request, here is the recipe for my pumpkin cookies. Well not "my" recipe. I didn't come up with it. But you get the point.

1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
Beat ingredients well.

1 egg
1 cup pumpkin
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
Combine all ingredients from above. Use tablespoon to scoop out cookie dough onto cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Now for the even yummier part....the caramel frosting!!!
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
Melt on stove, boil for one minute.

1/4 cup milk
2-3 cups powdered sugar
Combine all 4 ingredients and frost pumpkin cookies.

Enjoy!

A Weekend For the Dogs

Or maybe I should say a weekend with the dogs. The pet lover in me was extremely happy to go back to MN this past weekend to dogsit Maddie, Al and Gabby - the three labs in my life. I always wonder how Renee and Armand pick the best week to get out of wintery MN. And how is it that I've been going back to MN on the coldest weekends?!?! At any rate, it was fun to bond with my girls again....sometimes I forget how nice it is to have pets around.

Amidst dogsitting, the weekend was a whirlwind of visits with friends and family. I was able to reconnect with Izabela now that she has moved back to MN from China, as well as catching up with a few college friends. I enjoyed an evening with good friends (and my cousin Jenny) celebrating Jessica's birthday and playing some Guitar Hero (I really sucked) and braved the arctic temperatures to meet my parents for lunch in St. Cloud.

So many people to see and not enough time!! I think that will be my motto for visiting everyone in MN. And I sure would have loved to surprise my cousin Jessica and give her a big birthday hug. I hope you had a wonderful 12th birthday, Jessica!

Stay warm and no slipping!
