Well, maybe it's not really a "tale", but it's an update for y'all.
One of the thoughts I pondered in moving to Chicago is why would I move to a city with the same climate as MN. I've asked myself this question a few times in the past month, and then I had to take a serious look as to why I would travel back to MN...to Duluth MN....on a January weekend. Of course I chose the weekend where the high temp was -9, but at least that helped my decision in packing clothes. Long underwear...check. Wool socks and boots...check. A few extra layers of clothes...check. What more do you need?
My frigid weekend in Duluth warmed my soul with my visit with best friends. It was wonderful to celebrate Lorrie's birthday and catch up with my crew. And we had plenty of time to catch up around the fireplace drinking some good beer and stuffing ourselves silly with home-cooked meals. And I hope you all have a chance to play "Pigs" with your best friends...it is truly an experience not to be missed. That's all I have to say about that.
From one weekend with friends to another one, I was tickled pink to have Lorrie visit Chicago this past weekend. While we had a chance to catch up in a local Irish pub over Guinness and our favorite Irish food; the highlight of the weekend was kicking up our heels at a Chicago nightclub. While I'm a year older, I can still party like a rock star on the dance floor, and pretty much had to be dragged off of it Saturday night. Just an FYI to you girls that are planning a weekend in Chicago...you've been warned.
I do have a couple of birthday shout out's to a great friend, Janet, and cousin, Devin. Hope you had a great day!
May you all be well as we see January come to a close. Stay warm, keep the pigs in the pig pen, and shake your booty on the dance floor.

Birthday week begins!
I love birthdays so much!!!
I wondered why I went into work on my birthday, but I did. (Note to self, take your birthday off from work.) At least it was fun to be in the office as some floral bouquets arrived to wish me a happy day. My office looked like a floral shop, but I loved it.
After work, I headed out to The Kerryman (my new favorite pub) for some drinks with friends. I had a nice small gathering of people to help me celebrate. There were lots of stories shared, some good shepherd's pie eaten, and a lot of Guinness drunk. Does a girl need anything else?
The birthday celebration continued into Friday and Saturday, as my parents came to Chicago to visit me. This was their first visit to Chicago, and I think I played a pretty good tour guide. Our first stop was the mini bar on Friday night. This is a fabulous wine place, with the best cheese plate I've ever had. We had a bottle of Israeli wine (highly recommend) and fabulous entrees, and the best chocolate bread pudding known to man. We even had the chef/owner come out to our table a few times....he can spot the high rollers. LOL.
Saturday was a busy day that took us all across the city....a visit to the Field Museum and a look at Sue the T Rex from South Dakota, and the Pacific Island way of life. My parents are convinced they are going to lose me to an island/country in the Pacific. They may not be far off. We then headed to the Oriental Theatre and caught a matinee of Wicked. I had seen the show before, but this was a first for my parents. They absolutely loved it. If you have not seen this show, you must get out and see it now. It is such a wonderful spin on The Wizard of Oz, and has some great one-liners. We then ended our downtown excursion with a trip to the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. It was a clear night and the city was lit up like a Christmas Tree. Our final outing of the night was to uncommon ground, a restaurant near Wrigley Field which is a favorite of mine.
I do hope that when you can all visit me in Chicago, I can share with you some of these gems, and hopefully I'll have found more!!
My thank-you's are slow this year, so for everyone who reached out with a card, a phone call, or an email....THANK YOU for your well wishes. It was a fabulous 31st birthday!
Leila - I hope you enjoyed your special day as well. Hopefully you've forgiven me for the card!

Happy New Year!
I know, I know. We're almost half-way through January, but it's still the new year. I hope you were all blessed to be surrounded by the people you love during this past holiday season. I was very thankful to have had the opportunity to get back to MN to visit with family and friends.
My new year began with lots and lots of football. It is my favorite time of year! While I was sad some teams did not make it into Bowl games this year, and most of my teams did not win their Bowl games, it was still a fun end to the college season.
My new year also started with stars....Dancing with the Stars, I mean. A colleague had purchased tickets to the Dancing with the Stars show in Chicago, and I had a blast watching the professional dancers strut their stuff. At 31, is it too late to get into latin ballroom dancing?!?!?!
And I would be remiss to wish friends a Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary - Erin and Eric & Sarah - they celebrated their special days at the end of December. Best wishes in the new year!
